Spring of Tarrant
Spring of Tarrant is due to be relaunched from the Elephant Boatyard, Bursledon on the river Hamble in Summer 2026
About the vessel
Spring of Tarrant is more than just a yacht — she is a piece of British television and sailing heritage. Built in 1988 as an MG Spring 25 prototype by designer Tony Castro, she rose to fame as one of the star boats in the BBC’s iconic 1980s drama Howards’ Way. With her sleek lines and spirited performance, she embodied the excitement of a new generation of family cruisers and became instantly recognisable to millions of viewers. After years away from the spotlight, she was rediscovered in Portugal in 2021 and brought back to the UK, where a painstaking restoration has returned her to her former glory. Today, Spring of Tarrant stands as both a symbol of Britain’s golden era of yacht design and a living reminder of the cultural impact of Howards’ Way.

A public launch event is planned for late 2026 to celebrate the much-anticipated return of Spring of Tarrant to the River Hamble, where she became iconic in the BBC\’s 1980 series Howards\’ Way.
Original cast members will be invited to join the celebrations, linking the show’s legacy with reakl yachting history.
The event will also showcase the Hamble and Solent’s vibrant sailing community and highlight the contributions of businesses and craftsmen involved in the yacht’s extensive refit.
